Foreclosure Is Emotional

If you get issued a notice of foreclosure by your lender, the initial instinct seemed to be panic. Some homeowners go to drastic measures in an effort to save their home, not knowing that they could actually be making matters worse.

Most homeowners try to avoid calls and letters from the lenders for example. What they don’t seem to realize though, is that if they keep those communication lines open, they may actually be able to come to some kind of resolution which benefits both parties. By taking your lender’s calls for example, you might actually be able to buy yourself a little more time to take care of your financial problem. If you avoid the calls until the last minute so, they are not likely going to be overly willing to listen to you or work with you because it’s too late.

In some cases a homeowner will immediately put their house up for sale when they received a notice that they are going into foreclosure. The theory is that if they can sell at first, the House will not be auctioned off. This is true and it can help, but try not to put all of your eggs into just this one basket. Keep the communication lines open with the lender at the same time you’re trying to sell the home. That way, if the home does not sell, you won’t end up scrambling around at the last minute trying to figure out what to do.

Likewise, be careful with offers that might be made on your home. Some people may offer to take the deed of your home into their possession and ownership, and then in turn they will simply rent the home to you. The problem arises however, when these offers are made by fraudulent people. If they do not take care of any back to amount to your lender, your home may still be auctioned off, and you may still be evicted.

Another scenario involves businesses offering to resolve your foreclosure problems for you. Maybe they say they are experts at negotiating deals with lenders, and they tell you all you have to do is pay them an upfront fee for their services. If a homeowner is desperate enough, they may jump on what sounds like an excellent opportunity. Unfortunately, sometimes these are outright scams. Nothing is done to fix your foreclosure problems, and you are unable to contact the person you pay the money to.

So as a scary and nerve-racking a foreclosure notice can be, try to keep your head, and think realistically and reasonably about the options presented to you. Leave no stone unturned, but make sure each option you pursue is valid and legal.
